Apr 16, 2015
SAN FRANCISCO, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Interop Las Vegas, produced by UBM Tech, today announced a partnership with NPower and The Community Corps, NPower's skills-based volunteering program that connects technology professionals with schools and nonprofits, inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals. Focusing on the present and future innovations that will drive the IT community forward, Interop Las Vegas takes place April 27 – May 1 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. For more information, visit: interop.com.
At Interop Las Vegas, The Community Corps will lend its expertise in matching technology professionals with high impact nonprofits to help them use technology more effectively. Interop and The Community Corps will host the IT Skills Matching Event for 30 representatives from nonprofit organizations and teachers from tech-focused schools to meet with IT experts for free consultations in the areas of Infrastructure, Security and Cloud. The IT Skills Matching Event will take place Monday, April 27, 5:30-7:00 pm. To register as a mentor, visit reg.interop.com/Mentor.
Additionally, The Community Corps will be participating in the Women in Technology Panel & Luncheon, facilitating a mentoring opportunity for local high school girls. Joining Interop and InformationWeek Conference attendees, 20 juniors and seniors from East Tech High School in East Las Vegas will hear from powerful female leaders about IT career paths and advancement opportunities. After the open forum, the expert panelists will engage the girls in mentoring sessions, followed by a tour of the Expo Hall. The Women in Technology Panel & Luncheon will take place Wednesday, April 29, 1:00-2:00 pm.
"The IT community thrives on the kind of the support offered by NPower and other volunteer networks," said Interop General Manager Jennifer Jessup. "Through our partnership with NPower, Interop is proud to facilitate ways for attendees to share their real world tech expertise with those in need – whether providing counsel to nonprofits lacking technology resources or encouraging youth to hone their tech skills through mentoring sessions."
"Skills-based volunteering opportunities are in such demand right now. Professionals want to share their talents in meaningful, high impact ways. But the challenge is that matching skills to needs is difficult," said Mary Ellen Sullivan, Director of The Community Corps. "Interop is introducing their conference attendees to a program whose sole purpose is to make tech volunteering easy. During this conference, Interop attendees will be sharing their knowledge about the Cloud and Cyber Security with local nonprofits and educators who wouldn't otherwise have access to such high caliber free consulting."

The Interop Las Vegas 2015 conference program will be the most impressive in quality and size in the event's history, growing by nearly 35 percent over 2014. Nowhere else in the country will the IT community experience such a robust schedule of panels, lectures and discussions. Interop also hosts an Expo of more than 300 solution providers, offering attendees a convenient way to see next-gen technologies all in one place.
