BOSTON, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Given Ecuador's low fixed broadband penetration, mobile operators have an opportunity to meet the unmet demand for broadband access and to capture a large share of new broadband customers, according to a new report from Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com).

"Due to the inefficiency of the fixed infrastructure and the challenging geography of the country, mobile connectivity will play an important role in Ecuador's development," says Daniele Tricarico, Analyst at Pyramid Research. Mobile broadband will be a major driver for 3G, and later 4G, growth, increasingly representing a primary vehicle to meet unmet demand for broadband connectivity. In 2012, mobile broadband contributed 15 percent of total data revenue, and it will grow to make up 28 percent of mobile data revenue in 2017, he notes.
