"The upgrade to a faster data service infrastructure, in the form of a nationwide rollout of fiber networks and the launch of LTE, will propel Taiwan's telecom market toward a value of $13.6 billion in 2018," says Hansang He, Analyst at Pyramid Research. Chunghwa Telecom has earmarked nearly $3.5 billion for 2012 to 2015 to complete a nationwide 100Mbit/s GPON rollout. During the second half of 2012 alone, it spent more than $100 million on GPON, MSANs, routers and MSERs. Far EasTone has set its 2013 capex guidance at more than $310 million to build more 3G base stations, expand fiber connectivity to its backhaul and raise its Wi-Fi access point total to 36,000, he notes.
