CMP Media today announced the opening of the Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco at the Moscone Center. The event -- which runs through March 10 -- is the largest systems design conference in North America and the world's largest exhibition and premier educational forum for engineers and engineering managers. Planned highlights in 2005 include The Microprocessor Summit (March 7), the EE Times ACE Awards (March 9) and a Design Seminar Series (March 6-10).

"Now in its seventeenth year, the Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco is the largest, longest running and fastest growing systems design event in North America. When presented with choices concerning design forums in America, attendees and exhibitors continue to choose the Embedded Systems Conference as a go-to, must-see event," said Paul Miller, Vice President and Group Publisher for CMP Media. "This year, the event promises to be better than ever thanks to several new program additions that will increase networking and training opportunities for attendees and create new forums for industry recognition."

The Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco will feature more than 300 exhibitors this year, including Microsoft Corporation, Texas Instruments and Xilinx, Inc. In addition, 250 combined training programs will be offered, including seven new design seminars that are customized to meet the needs of design engineers and technology managers. The 2005 conference will also feature the Microprocessor Summit, a new one-day event for semiconductor companies to demonstrate new embedded processor, microcontroller, and digital signal processor architectures.

Event Keynotes Range from Humorous to Serious

On Tuesday, March 8, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., Dilbert cartoonist and bestselling author Scott Adams will deliver a keynote address. Adams will talk about his journey from corporate engineering cubicles to comic success and his most controversial Dilbert comics. From 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on March 8, Wind River President and CEO Ken Klein will present a "State of the Engineer" address, which discusses how dramatic changes in the marketplace are impacting embedded systems engineers.

Microprocessor Summit

From 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on March 7, at the Argent Hotel, the Microprocessor Summit will host semiconductor companies interested in introducing new embedded processors, microcontrollers and digital signal processors to industry representatives. This one-day forum starts with product announcements by leading and upcoming chip vendors. Subsequent presentations will focus on current shipping processors and are intended for buyers and decision makers.

Expanded Training

This year, the Embedded Systems Conference will expand its Embedded Training Program to include 132 technical classes and 16 full-day seminars featuring the latest embedded trends, tools and methodologies. To further enhance the training program, the conference has added seven new design seminars to its robust educational offering:

   * Analog and Power, March 7 -- Explains the use of analog components,
        such as amplifiers, data converters and power management devices
   * DSP Performance, March 7 -- Updates designers on DSP architectural
        trends and software design issues
   * Easy Paths to Silicon, March 7 - 8 -- Determines ways to implement
        algorithms in hardware that do not involve a traditional ASIC flow
   * Consumer Systems, March 8 - 9 -- Explores design issues in analog,
        DSP, compression, display and other technologies key to digital
        media
   *    3G Cellular System, March 8 - 9 -- Looks at system-level design
        engineering challenges related to third-generation (3G) wireless
        networks
   *    Wireless Networking, March 9 - 10 -- Focuses on resolving problems
        facing wireless network designers
   * Network Systems, March 9 - 10 -- Spotlights the convergence of all
        traffic to Internet Protocol (IP)

  EE Times ACE Awards

CMP Media's EE Times will recognize the people, companies and products that demonstrate leadership in the electronics industry at the inaugural EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. The EE Times ACE Awards will recognize Gordon Moore, co-founder and chairman emeritus of Intel Corporation with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Moore will be honored for his role in transforming a once small business segment into a monumental industry. In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, The EE Times ACE Awards will recognize standout members of the electronics industry in a number of award categories, including: Innovator of the Year; Design Team of the Year; and Emerging Company.
