CMP Media's Electronics Supply & Manufacturing and EE Times announced today the launch of the Green SupplyLine Web site (www.GreenSupplyLine.com), an online resource for OEM and EMS managers, that offers a variety of information resources about the business and technical ramifications of compliance to new environmental directives. Green SupplyLine is CMP Media's fifth vertically micro-segmented Web site.
Implementation of recycling laws in the European Union known as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) begins in mid-2005 and will be followed in mid-2006 by additional regulations known as "Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS)". China, Japan and other countries, as well as a dozen U.S. states, will be adopting similar "green" regulations within the next few years.
"This site is one of the most important resources for the electronics industry, filling a much needed gap in information and analysis on the important issues surrounding global environmental compliance," said Bruce Rayner, editor-in-chief of Electronics Supply & Manufacturing. "Any company involved in the design, sourcing, manufacturing and distribution of electronic components, boards and systems will be affected, regardless of the region of the world they serve. Research suggests that companies that are well prepared will have a distinct competitive advantage."
Helmed by Gina Roos, a leading electronics industry supply chain editor, Green SupplyLine is a one-stop resource for engineering, logistics, manufacturing and supply chain managers responsible for managing environmental risks. The Web site delivers how-to information, news, new product introductions and topical forums covering the following areas:
-- Hazardous materials -- Lead-free technologies and processes -- Recycling and reuse -- Standards and compliance issues
The site will also report on best practices/IT issues, supply line changes, managing the change-over and recycling and reuse, along with breaking news, commentary, forums, new product updates, and a TechLibrary packed with valuable resource links.
Green SupplyLine Editor Gina Roos also serves as the components editor for eeProductCenter's interconnects, passives and electromechanical sites. Gina began her writing career 20 years ago as editor of an industry purchasing magazine where she covered electronics industry trends. She has worked with CMP Media as a freelance writer since 1993. Her consulting work has also included writing for Compaq Computer's networking products division and Extension Media's Bluetooth newsletter.
