CMP Technology Honors Industry Icon Eric Lidow With the 2007 EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award

CMP Technology's EE Times announced today that Eric Lidow is the recipient of the 2007 EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Lidow will be honored at the third Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards Gala (http://www.eetimes.com/ace) on April 3, 2007, as part of the largest electronic systems design event in North America, the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley.

Mr. Lidow is being honored for making significant contributions to the electronics industry for more than 60 years. As a pioneer in his field, he is responsible for founding one of the first electronics companies in existence today, International Rectifier (NYSE: IRF), in 1947 with his father. Mr. Lidow grew the company into a $1.1 billion business that led the industry in selenium and germanium rectifiers, power-management systems and, in 1960, produced the world's first solar-powered automobile.

"Lidow's achievements as an entrepreneur, an innovator and businessmen with a penchant for green engineering make him a natural for our Lifetime Achievement Award," said Brian Fuller, editor-in-chief of EE Times. "Long after most electronics executives have retired, Lidow comes to work every day, driving a hybrid vehicle."

In 1940, he co-founded and served as general manager of Selenium Corp. of America, which was acquired by Sperry Corp. in 1944. Mr. Lidow stayed on after the acquisition, serving as vice-president of engineering until starting IR. IR was created to put to use advanced processes they had developed for manufacturing selenium rectifiers, which converted alternating electrical current to direct electrical current.

After expanding into germanium rectifiers, diodes and transistors for the U.S. market, the company expanded into Japan in 1957. Mr. Lidow was chief executive officer until March 1995. Today, he continues his involvement with the company as chairman of the board.

The EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award candidates were selected by the editors of EE Times based on their individual accomplishments over the course of their careers. Past honorees include Wilf Corrigan, chairman of the board for LSI Logic and Gordon Moore, chairman emeritus of Intel Corporation.
