TechInsights (http://www.techinsights.com/) today announced that it will feature the Build Your Own Embedded System (BYOES) Program at its Embedded Systems Conference Boston. The BYOES program allows attendees to build and take home a fully configured embedded system based on a development kit which they receive for free as part of their All-Access or Five-Day Pass. Attendees will be able to choose from two programming kits, including one produced by iBase and a second kit based on the recently launched Beagle Board, which is a powerful, low-cost and fanless embedded development board smaller than a drink coaster.
"The BYOES program makes ESC Boston one of the few, if not only, conferences that offer attendees a true hands-on educational experience," said Richard Nass, editor in chief of Embedded Systems Design and editorial director of the Embedded Systems Conferences. "A lot of conferences give attendees a development platform to work on while they're at the event, but ESC Boston attendees get to keep their newly configured kit. When they get back to their own lab, they'll be well down the path toward their embedded design."
ESC Boston will be the first conference to offer the USB-powered Beagle Board as part of the hands-on education experience the Embedded Systems Conferences have become known for. The Linux-based kit is a collaborative effort between Texas Instruments, Numonyx and MontaVista and was released to the public on July 28. Attendees may also choose the iBase kit, a fully completed development kit running both Windows Embedded Standard and Windows CE.
In order to build out their kits, BYOES participants will choose from a host of classes specifically designed to develop the homemade platforms. Attendees will be able to choose from classes about the Windows XP Standard and application development to understanding the ins and outs of flash file system integration and embedded USB.
