CMP Media (NASDAQ: UNEWY) today announced that more than 100 providers of tools and technology for intelligent electronic devices are participating in a product exhibition at the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago, which runs from July 9-12, 2001. The Midwest's largest educational forum for engineers, developers, and managers working with embedded systems, which takes place at Chicago's Navy Pier Festival Hall, provides an insider's view of important trends in the industry, including the evolution of connected devices and new developments in software technology.
Embedded Systems Conference attendees will have access to a conference program of 90 classes and tutorial sessions taught by industry experts in fields such as real-time design, assembly, C, and C++ programming, wireless systems, open source technologies, embedded Internet and Java, and unified modeling language. The concurrent exhibition, open to conference attendees and exhibits pass holders, will feature new chips, components and software tools for use in automotive and industrial applications, as well as consumer devices such as handheld computers and smart telephones.
"New products scheduled to be announced or shown at the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago reflect a continuing trend toward connectivity and increased software complexity," said Michael Barr, editor-in-chief, Embedded Systems Programming magazine. "Software packages that have been traditionally 'desktop-only' are now being developed for embedded systems, reducing the cost of bringing advanced functionality to intelligent devices."
New products demonstrating the movement of desktop-like software into embedded systems include a tool to create embedded databases, a database server that reduces network traffic and supports advanced multithreading, and Web browsers that allow for advanced, desktop-like viewing from embedded devices.
Other featured attractions on the show floor include the latest in debug and test tools including:
-- A software verifier that automatically detects access conflicts on shared data at compile time. -- An "out of the box" family of RTOS-Independent, hardware-assisted software development tools and evaluation boards, including an IDE, a powerful hardware assisted debugger, JTAG and ROM emulation, and peripheral rich evaluation boards. -- A suite of tools that provide instant analysis of an embedded system, with real-time data monitoring, online execution-flow trace, statistical profiling, and an online memory analyzer.
In addition to the product exhibition, the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago offers several special events, including a keynote address by best-selling author and TV personality Robert X. Cringely. On Tuesday, July 10 from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m., Cringely will discuss "How the Embedded Shall Inherit the Earth." Also included are early morning shoptalk sessions, where attendees can discuss their successes and challenges, and an opening night reception on the show floor celebrating "Summer Nights on the Lake," on Tuesday, July 10.
