Lifetime Achievement Award
Ray Stata is Chairman and co-founder of Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI). ADI's analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal processing integrated circuits play a fundamental role in converting, conditioning, and processing real-world phenomena such as light, sound, temperature, motion, and pressure into electrical signals to be used in a wide array of electronic equipment. Since he co-founded the company in 1965, Stata's rare combination of business skills, leadership ability and technological vision have helped guide ADI to consistently providing innovative technology that gives customers a competitive advantage. Stata also co-founded and served as the first President of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, an advocacy group for shared funding between government and industry for engineering education and university research. At the federal level, Stata has served on the Executive Committee of the Council on Competitiveness.
A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stata holds a BSEE and MSEE from MIT and is now Chairman of the Visiting Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Throughout his career in the technology industry and because of his commitment to public service, Stata has been recognized with many awards, including the SIA Founders Award, the IEEE Founders Medal, and a 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange.
Student of the Year
Mr. Guruprasad Madhavan, MA, MBA is a PhD candidate in the department of Bioengineering at Binghampton University, where he concentrates on medical device engineering. Dr. Madhavan is currently pursuing a medical device concept that could result in electrical stimulation therapy to assist cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems and could help with chronic ailments such as Alzheimer's disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and osteoporosis. Dr. Madhavan was also chosen to represent Binghampton at the State Assembly Capital where he met with Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, to discuss practical ways to achieve global non-violence. Dr. Madhavan also serves as a mentor to undergraduate students at Binghampton.
Educator of the Year
Dr. Moira Gunn, host of the public radio programs "Tech Nation" and "BioTech Nation", currently serves as the Program Director of Information Systems Programs in the College of Professional Studies at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Gunn has implemented technology advancement programs at the University of San Francisco that have added course emphasis in 21st century topics of educational importance, relevant to the technology industry. The revamped programs are designed to prepare students for the job market that will continue to develop over the next decade. Due in part to Dr. Gunn, the University of San Francisco has seen a 300% increase in enrollment over the past year. In Dr. Gunn's role as host of "Tech Nation" and "Biotech Nation" she speaks weekly with CEO's, scientists, industry analysts, ethicists, and others in the biotech field.
The EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award and the Student and Educator of the Year recipients were selected by the editors of EE Times based on their individual accomplishments and impact on the electronics industry. Past Lifetime Achievement honorees include Eric Lidow, chairman of the board and founder of International Rectifier, Wilf Corrigan, chairman of the board for LSI Logic and Gordon Moore, chairman emeritus of Intel Corporation.
The EE Times ACE Awards will be held on April 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel.
