CMP Media (NASDAQ: UNEWY) today unveiled the technical program for the Communications Design Conference, a forum where electronics design engineers and technical managers can learn practical skills, meet colleagues and strategic suppliers and discover new ideas for designing communication systems. The conference will focus on wired, optical and wireless technologies for building the communications products, systems and equipment that will shape tomorrow's enterprise, infrastructure, home and personal communication devices.
Held October 1-4, 2001 at the San Jose Convention Center (San Jose, Calif.), the conference features eight technology tracks that provide opportunities for design engineers and managers to learn about key issues and technologies surrounding home networking, last mile broadband access, next generation wireless systems and high-speed internetworking, among others. Topics ranging from Voice-over-IP, 2.5G/3G wireless, optical switching, to terabit routing, Bluetooth, and DSP are designed to help engineers meet the increasing demands for application-related expertise and fast time-to-market system designs.
"Worldwide demand for faster, better and more reliable connections in the home, office and on the road is driving the development of leading-edge devices and infrastructure," said Robert Keenan, conference co-chair and editor-in-chief of COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS DESIGN magazine. "But the competition to deliver these solutions in today's environment is increasingly intense. We believe that engineers and managers who attend the Communications Design Conference will be better positioned to innovate and compete successfully in this demanding market."
The eight separate conference tracks are: -- Broadband Access/Backbone Design -- Optical Communications: Systems and Components -- Portable/Wireless Appliances -- Wireless Infrastructure -- Internetworking Equipment Design -- Home Networking Design -- Systems and Infrastructure -- Software/Middleware
The conference program includes 42 moderated paper sessions, 28 workshops and nine in-depth tutorials presented by a faculty of highly respected working engineers, analysts and researchers. Highlights of scheduled sessions include:
-- Handling Signal Processing in 2.5/3G Infrastructure Design -- Java Processing: The Next Frontier in Wireless -- Intelligent Management of Wavelengths -- Building Fixed Broadband Wireless Architectures -- Encryption and Security: Network Security Processors and Beyond -- The Shift From Copper to Optical Backplane -- Softswitch: Agents and Servers -- Residential Gateways -- QoS Issues for Home Networks
A complete listing of the preliminary technical program, is posted on the conference web site at http://www.commdesignconference.com/.
"Today's design engineers can't afford to miss time-to-market windows and they must have a wide understanding of how their model fits across technologies," said Keenan. "The Communications Design Conference will arm design engineers with the expertise to utilize available resources in an increasingly demand rich, time poor environment, while helping them to develop the core competencies necessary to make designs a reality."
Industry Experts to Speak
In addition to the program of papers, classes and tutorials, the Communications Design Conference includes an event keynote, along with three track keynote speakers, five plenary panel discussions, plus Birds of A Feather, Breakfast Roundtables, and other events. Two of the keynote speakers at the conference include Dr. Al Javed, chief technology officer, Wireless Internet, at Nortel, and Dr. Larry Walker, chief executive officer at C-PORT Corporation.
Dr. Javed will speak on "Technologies for 3G Wireless Systems Evolution & Beyond." He will address the impact of technologies such as space-time coding, antenna array processing, dynamic modulation and coding, and interference cancellation.
Dr. Walker's keynote is titled, "The Impact of Semiconductors on the Networked World." Recognized as one of the most powerful people in networking by NETWORK WORLD magazine, he will share his insights on the convergence of the networking and semiconductor industries and the symbiotic relationships between them.
The Communications Design Conference is produced by CMP Media LLC and is sponsored by COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS DESIGN magazine and EE TIMES. Other conferences produced by CMP's Electronics tradeshow group include the Embedded Systems Conferences, Embedded Executive Summit, HDI Expo, HD International and the PCB Design Conferences.
