InformationWeek Is Hands-On With HTC's One (M8) Smartphone

NEW YORK, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to the smartphone market, Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system is hemmed in by Apple and its iPhone and iOS combo on one side, and by Google's ubiquitous Android OS on the other. However, can the new HTC One (M8) with Windows Phone 8.1 break the mold?

On InformationWeek, Associate Editor Michael Endler goes hands-on with the new HTC One (M8) to see if Microsoft has the ability to make itself a third force in the smartphone operating system market.

One aspect that stands out in Endler's review is that HTC gives the Windows Phone operating system an extra dimension to compete against all those Android devices. He explains: "Previously, if you wanted a flagship Windows Phone, you were basically stuck with bright-colored, plastic-encased Nokia models. Many of them are fine phones, but compared to the cornucopia of styles available to Android users, the Windows Phone catalogue has lacked variety, especially at the premium end."

For business users, Endler finds that the smartphone can sync easily with other Microsoft accounts, especially Office 365. He also puts Cortana, the Windows Phone virtual assistant, through a number of tests.
