Software Development Industry Luminaries Round Out SD West 2002 Curriculum

CMP Media's SD Events Group today announced the names of industry leaders chosen to address thousands of software development professionals at the upcoming Software Development Conference and Expo (SD West) featuring Web Services World and the SD Management Summit at the San Jose Convention Center, April 22-26.
SD West gives attendees access to the largest gathering of software development experts in one place, with an impressive list of well-known technology experts and industry gurus from all corners of the development world. This year's keynote lineup includes:
-- Steve McConnell, project management expert and award winning author of Code Complete and Rapid Development, will discuss the time-tested rules of thumb for dramatically improving project estimation accuracy. McConnell is presenting on the opening day of the Expo, April 23rd at 6:30 pm. -- Anders Hejlsberg, the chief designer of the C# programming language and a key participant in the Microsoft .NET Framework, will explain how Microsoft Visual Studio .NET will enable developers to leverage their existing skills to build new XML Web Services and applications. Hejlsberg is keynoting on April 24th at noon. -- Clay Shirky, renowned writer and consultant on Internet technologies, will examine what the "state horizon" is in Web Services development and how it will effect the future. Shirky is keynoting on Thursday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m.
Other keynote speakers include world-renowned C++ expert and author, Scott Meyers, and software process and quality improvement advocate, Karl Wiegers.
Panels begin on Tuesday, April 23rd, when Ken North, the editor of Dr. Dobb's Journal's XML and Web Services channel, will moderate a panel discussion focused on the future of software development and databases. Other panelists include Don Chamberlin and Daniela Florescu, co-designers of the W3C XML Query language, Jim Melton, editor of the international SQL standard, Jim Gray, an ACM fellow and Turing Award winner and Rick Cattell, the original Java Enterprise architect at Sun Microsystems. Other panels planned for the conference include a discussion about UDDI.org and methodologies.
The merits of Java and C# will be discussed at a special panel on Thursday evening, April 25, at 6:30pm. The discussion will be lead by Java expert Bruce Eckel and Richard Hale Shaw, a top trainer and consultant in .NET and COM.
In addition to the panels and keynotes, industry gurus will teach information-packed courses designed to enlighten and educate attendees about the latest trends in programming languages, platform tools and Internet technologies.
