CMP Media's SD Web Services World, the only show to cover the full spectrum of software development, closed to high praise at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. A combination of industry-leading exhibitors, diverse conference tracks, compelling speakers and its one-of-a-kind Web Services Pavilion made SD Web Services World a must-attend event August 27 through August 31.
Throughout the week, the SD Web Services World Expo floor was packed with attendees, and attention-grabbing keynote addresses from software development luminaries such as Daniel Guinan, Bjarne Stroustrup, and John Magee highlighted each day. Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, delivered Thursday's afternoon keynote on the development of the Semantic Web and other principles of Web Architecture before a standing-room-only crowd. Attendees departed having heard from some of the best speakers in the industry, and with an enhanced knowledge of the most pressing issues facing the industry today.
"SD Web Services World 2001 was another tremendous event and the success of the conference, exhibition and speaking tracks here in Boston served as proof that our commitment to provide top-notch content for developers ensures that exhibitors and attendees get unparalleled value through our events," said Mike Gottlieb, show director for SD Events Group. "We have received very positive feedback from every group involved in the show. The developer community recognizes that we consistently provide the definitive forum for education, knowledge-exchange and networking."
A diverse combination of some of the largest companies in software development and new up-and-comers made the exhibition floor the place to see and hear about the latest products and services to hit the market. BetaSphere, Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lingo Systems, Microsoft, Oracle, Rational and Sun Microsystems were among the exhibitors.
"We chose to exhibit at SD Web Services World as its participants are historically excellent business prospects," said Glynis Gore, director of sales and marketing for LearningPatterns.com. "The event is a perfect venue to showcase LearningPatterns.com's specific training services. In addition, we find that the conference attendees are always pleased with the content of the sessions and arrive to our booth happy with their experience. It's a win-win situation."
SD Web Services World once again provided unparalleled conference sessions, in which some of the top educators in the field brought real-world knowledge and experience to the classroom. Conference attendees came away with the latest information and techniques about topics such as XML, SOAP, WSDL, XML, among others. The educational sessions were designed and tiered so that both beginning and experienced developers could maximize the value they received.
"I attended SD Web Services World specifically for the classes, and they have been great," said Beth Finn, a conference attendee and Java developer for BEA Systems. "I came in with a good knowledge base, but the educational sessions provided really helped me bring it all together."
A party on the Expo floor Wednesday night and a series of Birds-of-a-Feather gatherings throughout the show kept attendees and exhibitors entertained after event hours each night. The next SD Web Services World is scheduled for April 22 through April 26 in San Jose.
