CMP Media's Software Development magazine today announced the 66 finalists for this year's Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards. The finalists in 11 categories were chosen from more than 700 nominations by a team of Software Development editors, columnists and industry gurus.
For the past 12 years, Software Development Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards have been presented annually to products that have "jolted" the industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier and more efficient. Jolt cola, the fabled soft drink quaffed by software programmers for sustenance during development project marathons, sponsors the awards presentation.
This year's awards ceremony will take place on March 26th at the Santa Clara Convention Center during SD West 2003, which attracts more than 5,000 software developers, renowned industry speakers and the press annually. Winners will also be featured in the June issue of Software Development magazine.
"The award categories are evolving to reflect the latest technologies," said Editor in Chief Alexandra Weber Morales. "This year, we created a new category for tools that aid designing, building, testing or deploying Web services. Business integration tools are also a new focus for the Jolts and we added awards for technical and more general books."
One Jolt Award and three Productivity Awards are presented for each category. Jolt Product Excellence Award winners receive a coveted trophy -- a can of Jolt cola encased in lucite. The 11 award categories are General Books, Technical Books, Business Integration and Data Tools, Design and Analysis Tools, Languages and Development Environments, Libraries, Frameworks and Components, Project Management Tools, Testing Tools, Utilities, Web Services Tools and Web Sites and Developer Networks.
