CMP Media's InformationWeek today announced the InformationWeek 500, a prestigious listing of the largest and most innovative users of information technology. For 17 years, the InformationWeek 500 has tracked organizations' IT agendas, providing a unique opportunity to understand and examine their business practices across core areas of technology operations. Companies named to this list demonstrate a pattern of technological and organizational innovation. Capital One, which is ranked No. 1, followed by SC Johnson & Sons Inc., Eastman Kodak Co. and BellSouth Corp, are some of the household names being honored for their innovative IT practices. For nearly a decade, Capital One has consistently been honored by the InformationWeek 500 for its innovative IT practices, jumping from 8th in 2004 to No. 1 this year.
"The InformationWeek 500 will invest in aggregate 3% of their annual revenue on IT this year -- an average cash outlay of $293 million. Collectively, the nation's most innovative users of technology will spend a total of $147 billion on information technology this year," says Stephanie Stahl, editor-in-chief of InformationWeek. "Content filtering and content management software are among the most widely deployed products, while improved spam filtering, increased desktop security, and desktop operating system upgrades are some of the widespread IT initiatives aimed at improving company productivity. And to improve the efficiency of business operations, this year's IT innovators have devoted time to increase the use of automated processes, improve data integration between systems or departments, and established business-process frameworks to improve the running of business tasks."
The release of the InformationWeek 500 ranking coincides with InformationWeek's 15th annual Fall Conference, "Business-Process Innovation: Using Technology to Redefine and Reinvigorate Competitive Advantage." Ten sponsors including Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Microsoft join hundreds of the business technology industry's top executives, luminaries and academics at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, CA to discuss and debate today's most critical and topical business and IT issues. Keynote speakers include Linda Dillman, Executive VP and CIO of Wal-Mart, thought-leader and author Dr. Michael Hammer and FedEx Executive VP and CIO Rob Carter.
Current and former InformationWeek 500 honorees will attend a special reception at the InformationWeek Fall Conference. These business technology leaders will discuss their unique vision and strategies for innovation with fellow honorees and InformationWeek 500 alumni. The InformationWeek Conference gathers hundreds of the business technology industry's top executives, luminaries, academics and vendors to discuss and debate today's most critical and topical business and IT issues.
