InformationWeek magazine, the leading IT media brand, has named David Pottruck, president and co-CEO and Dawn Lepore, vice chairman and CIO of Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. as InformationWeek's Chiefs of the Year for 2000. Pottruck and Lepore are the fourteenth leaders to earn the prestigious title. The duo were selected for their ability to lead the discount brokerage firm to its position as the leading online brokerage, while outpacing traditional competitors and maintaining customer loyalty.

"We selected two agents of change who have reinvented themselves many times over to help themselves and their company stay relevant," said Stephanie Stahl editor of InformationWeek. "Pottruck and Lepore have a passionate and unwavering focus on the customer, an eagerness to innovate, a desire to help employees balance work and personal interests and an ability separate themselves from the competition."

According to InformationWeek's editors, Pottruck and Lepore live and breathe everything that successful companies must have in the e-business era: technology leadership from the very top, attraction and retention of employees and a strong focus on the customer. In addition, they understand that technology drives business and have long described Charles Schwab & Co. as a technology company that happens to be in the brokerage business.

A full report on the 2000 Chief of the Year award can be found in the November 27, 2000, issue of InformationWeek and on Informationweek.com. In addition to Charles Schwab & Co., InformationWeek's editors recognize other technology innovators for their ability to embrace the Internet-mandated changes that rocked both dot.com start-ups and traditional companies to their cores in 2000 and emerge as leaders in their respective industries. Other CEO-CIO teams recognized include FedEx's Frederick Smith and Rob Carter, Eastman Chemical's Ernie Deavenport and Roger Mowen, as well as GE's Jack Welch and Gary Reiner.
