CMP Media's TechWeb (http://www.techweb.com/), today announced that award-winning technology writer, editor, and Web site builder Fredric Paul, formerly a CNET executive editor, has taken the helm as the site's executive editor. Paul brings more than 20 years of experience developing print and online content that helps individuals and enterprises understand and use technology. He replaces former director of editorial operations Aaron Fischer who leaves TechWeb to pursue his own Web consulting company.
Paul will be responsible for TechWeb's content and day-to-day operations. TechWeb, the first online source of IT-related news and information, was recently re-launched to consolidate online content from multiple CMP Media Business Technology Group (BTG) publications, including InformationWeek.com, InternetWeek.com, and NetworkComputing.com, to serve up custom-designed information for busy business-technology professionals. Paul will report to Mike Azzara, Director of Content Development for CMP's BTG.
"Paul's extensive knowledge of business technology, combined with his online experience, will further accelerate the development of TechWeb," said Azzara. "Our goal is to continually increase our efficiency in identifying critical information for business technology professionals. We are excited to have Paul on board to help us implement our next step in that process, contextual linking."
TechWeb's unique mix of content and context for business technology professionals makes it a perfect outlet for Paul's extensive experience in both Web building and technology journalism. "I'm incredibly excited about the opportunity to help lead TechWeb to the next level," Paul said. "I'm thrilled to be working with the terrific TechWeb staff to make the site even more useful for IT professionals."
Paul's online experience began in 1995 as executive editor of the flagship CNET.com site and continued as founding editor of CNET Builder.com. After CNET, he spent almost two years as vice president of Content/Programming for AllBusiness.com, which was acquired by NBC Internet Inc. Since leaving AllBusiness.com, Paul has worked with a variety of high-profile companies, including Ideas.com, OneCosmos.net, PC World magazine, and MIT Sloan Management Review.
From 1996 to 1998, Paul and his CNET staff collected three successive Computer Press Awards for Best Online How-To. Prior to CNET.com, Paul was editor in chief of IDG's Electronic Entertainment magazine, which chronicled the rise of the CD-ROM and computer-game industries. Paul's print career includes senior positions at a long list of business technology magazines, including PC World Lotus Edition, PC/Computing, High Technology Business, and CMP's CommunicationsWeek, now known as Internet Week.
