Today, CMP Media's TechWeb Network announced that Groklaw (http://www.groklaw.net/) has won the first Best Independent Tech Blog Readers Choice Awards on the TechWeb Network. Groklaw, written by Pamela Jones and a volunteer staff, is an online resource dedicated to observing and commenting on the myriad legal disputes within the technology industry. The blog offers interviews, research, reporting, court-filed documents as PDFs and searchable text, and a popular comments section.
"Congratulations to Groklaw for being chosen as the best of the best by our readers," said Mike Azzara, Vice President/Group Director, Internet Business, CMP Media's TechWeb Network. "Groklaw covers an area that is increasingly important for the entire technology industry."
For three weeks starting October 10, TechWeb Network visitors, composed mainly of technology professionals at large, medium, and small organizations, were invited to nominate their favorite independent tech blogs. Qualifying blogs had to primarily cover technology and be published independently of any major technology publishing company. Over 1,000 nominations were received for more than 400 blogs. These were narrowed down to ten finalists, which were opened up for voting on November 1, 2004. Groklaw was identified as the best independent blog by TechWeb Network visitors.
The ten finalists were: Alice and Bill.com, CrackTalk, Daily Dose of Excel, Groklaw, jkOnTheRun, Long Horn Blogs, Slashdot, SmallBizTechnology.com, The Enterprise System Specatator, and VARLinux. Over 2,600 votes were cast.
A complete list of the nominees, their ranking, and voter comments can be found at http://www.techweb.com/blogawards/winners.html.
"What a great feeling it is to pour your heart into a project and then learn that so many people really enjoy and appreciate your creative work," said Pamela Jones, founder and editor of Groklaw. "Thank you, everyone, for this honor. It means a lot to me."
Groklaw and the other nominees will receive six months of promotion on TechWeb Network sites. As the winner, Groklaw's founder Pamela Jones will receive a $500 Starbucks Coffee Card.
