As the task-orientation of Internet users increases, one of the biggest complaints with online advertising is that clicking on advertisements diverts users from their Web activity. As a result, even interested users often avoid investigating banner ads.
Today, CMP Media's TechWeb debuted DataPop, a new permission-based advertising solution that addresses this problem by allowing users to anonymously request information from an advertiser without being diverted from their online work. This new form of advertising allows users to ask for the specific information they want and review the emailed information at their convenience.
Initially, DataPop will be available exclusively on the CMP Enterprise sites -- TechWeb.com, InformationWeek.com, InternetWeek.com and NetworkComputing.com.
DataPop Is Easy to Use and Provides Both Anonymity and Control
DataPop creates a significant connection between a user's web task and email. To initiate a DataPop, users click on an icon placed near a participating advertisement. A smaller secondary DataPop window launches while preserving the initial Web window, offering marketing information via email.
"CMP Media is well-known for bringing advertisers and buyers together. Now with the availability of DataPop, we are providing advertisers with another medium with which to reach the right customers," said Amy Sklar, Managing Director for CMP's TechWeb. "DataPop provides users with anonymity and control while advertisers increase their brand awareness by presenting targeted messages to people who really want to hear them."
CMP Makes It Easy and Cost Effective for Advertisers
The DataPop pop-up window and email are standard templates from CMP's TechWeb. Advertisers can either develop a Web page to be delivered to the user in the vendor portion of the email or they can display an existing page from their Website. An additional benefit to advertisers is that DataPop requires little or no new creative. Advertisers also receive a monthly report containing statistics on the distributed emails and user information from those who opt-in for advertiser's contact.
"DataPop is a great way to help our clients elicit higher response rates from interested prospects," said Sarah Faye, President, Carat Interactive. "It is also a good first step to an email relationship marketing program. And it does not require advertisers to spend any extra money on new creative development."
