SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- InformationWeek Government announced the speakers for GovGloud 2011, a new conference taking place on October 25 at the Reagan Pavilion in Washington, D.C. This day-long event is designed to give IT professionals in federal, state and local government the most up-to-the-date information on how cloud computing is being deployed in government. The event theme is 'Building Secure, On-Demand Clouds for Government.' Topics of discussion include public cloud services, private clouds, and shared clouds, and how to use those platforms in a way that minimizes risks and satisfies FISMA and other requirements.

The event features a keynote presentation by Gus Hunt, CTO of the Central Intelligence Agency. Featured speakers include Dr. Lon Gowen, associate director for innovation with NASA Goddard; Katie Lewin, director of GSA's federal cloud computing program; Kenneth Rogers, director of IT strategic planning for the Department of State; Grant Schneider, CIO of the Defense Intelligence Agency; and senior IT officials with Homeland Security, NIST, the U.S. Marshals Service, and other agencies.

"We will see demonstrations of cloud applications and explore private clouds, platforms as a service, lessons learned, and cloud security in interactive sessions where attendees are encouraged to be part of the conversation," said John Foley, Editor of InformationWeek Government and host of GovCloud 2011. Foley will lead a session titled 'Making the Jump Into Commercial Cloud Services,' where he asks Google, Microsoft, and Terremark about their readiness to support government requirements.
