New InformationWeek Reports Research Identifies Mobile Applications as Top Enterprise Software Priority
Oct 13, 2011
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- InformationWeek Reports, a service for peer-based IT research and analysis, announced the release of its latest research report; Enterprise Apps 2011: Focus on Business Relevance, which encompasses analysis of results from InformationWeek's Enterprise Applications Survey and guides readers in developing business-relevant enterprise application strategies. Three hundred and fourteen business technology professionals responded to this poll. The report author, Doug Henschen, is executive editor of InformationWeek.
Research Summary:
IT leaders see new priorities for their on-premises enterprise application strategies, with mobile applications, financial and performance management apps, and social-savvy CRM topping the charts. Business needs—not technology concerns—are driving a new level of commitment when it comes to enterprise software decisions. Still, no one is saying goodbye to the old software systems. More than half of survey respondents cite upgrading or optimizing existing applications as the activity that consumes most of their time; about half also consider having to perform these updates one of the main barriers to success.
Findings:
- Executive support, improved input from end users and better guidance from business leaders are the three developments that would most improve IT productivity, according to survey respondents.
- Improving efficiency to cut costs remains the top business priority, cited by 30% of respondents (down from 37% last year); developing innovative products remains No. 2, at 23%, while increasing customer satisfaction moved into the No. 3 spot, at 20%, up from 12%.
- 64% of respondents say "ability to integrate with existing systems and infrastructure" is the top quality they look for in an enterprise applications vendor; 38% cite "responsive service and support" as most important.
- Just 43% of our 274 respondents with responsibility for enterprise applications say their organizations use SaaS apps; data security is the top concern among those who've steered clear of SaaS, cited by 28% of them.
