42% of staff and 41% of managers feel very secure in their jobs

Nearly 700 business intelligence, analytics and information management professionals responded to the poll.

Research Summary:

Our 2012 InformationWeek Salary Survey shows there's high demand for analytics experts and information management professionals who can ask the right questions and make use of vast and growing data stores. Total median compensation for business intelligence (BI) managers has increased to $135,000, compared with $121,000 in 2010. Median compensation for BI is up as well, at $95,000 vs. $88,000 two years ago.


  • 66% of staff and 83% of managers are receiving, or expect to receive, a bonus in 2012.
  • The No. 1 most-critical skill for staffers is analyzing data, cited by 78%; aligning business and technology goals is No. 1 for managers, at 81%.
  • 49% of staff and 45% of managers say job or company stability is what matters most about their jobs, up from 42% and 40%, respectively, in 2011.
  • 35% of information management professionals say documenting integration and data warehouse design, processes, and procedures consumes most of their time.
