For the first time publicly, UBM Tech and VDC Research will present the detailed research findings in the panel session entitled "What the Intelligent Systems Boom Means for the Embedded Market" on Tuesday, April 23 at 9:15 a.m. in Room 231AB. While the IoT phenomenon has enabled countless innovations from a connected car or home, to hand-held point of sale devices and wearable military communication systems, these innovations also pose considerable risks to consumers using these devices, enterprises deploying these devices and OEMs developing these devices.  UBM Tech editors, VDC Research analysts and leading industry vendors will debate both sides of this equation. This session will showcase current internet connected projects as well as the audiences' estimate of future trends.  In addition, the presenters will look at development, software and security concerns of new products, the barriers to bringing devices to the world of ubiquitous connectivity as well as the promise of big data.  DESIGN West also has an Internet of Things conference track with classes taking place on Tuesday, April 23 and a Connected Devices track in the Napkin Sketch to Shenzhen program on Thursday, April 25.

"The diversity of the embedded market complicates the implementation of sound security practices for connected devices," said Karen Field, Senior Vice President Content, Electronics, UBM Tech.  "Embedded devices are highly customized and require specialized security measures.  Many engineers may have not considered an issue such as connectivity in past designs, let alone dedicated security software.  Given this clear gap in understanding, the industry needs a forum such as DESIGN West to learn how to change internal processes and procedures, select different and new commercial products, software and tools. We provide this learning both on and off the show floor, in our IoT Conference Track and Intelligent Systems Zone on the Show Floor."

Exhibitors will showcase connected devices and new technologies at DESIGN West.  These include:

- The Intelligent Systems Zone is anchored by Platinum Sponsor Intel® in booth 916 and will feature solutions to make embedded solutions smarter through advanced performance, connectivity, security, and manageability.
