NEW YORK, Aug. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Tech's online telecom publication Light Reading (www.lightreading.com) today announced it has enhanced its position as the premier online destination for the global communications industry with a completely restructured, community-driven media platform that brings the audience into the conversation through moderated discussions, blogs, and social media, giving the community equal share of voice with content experts. In addition, the stunning new design is optimized for rapid interaction and engagement among community members, combining both digital and live event content.

The new Light Reading combines the best of Light Reading's independent daily editorial coverage with a multimedia content strategy focused on enhancing interaction among members of the global communications community. That interaction comes in the form of contributed blogs from telecom, mobile, cable, and web services executives; enhanced multimedia message board discussions that encourage knowledge-sharing among community members; and the opportunity to network in person at Light Reading industry events such as the Ethernet & SDN Expo (www.ethernetsdnexpo.com), which will be tightly integrated with the online presence.
Light Reading will be introducing additional programs in the coming months, including the Light Reading University, which will enable community members to enhance their understanding of key industry developments, make their jobs easier, and boost interaction among the site's registered users.
The debut of the restructured community comes at a critical time for the global communications industry, which is undergoing an unprecedented transformation of its own, with the introduction of 4G mobile, the growing popularity of online communications and social networking services, the adoption of cloud computing, and the ongoing integration of telecom and IT technologies among the key catalysts for change.
"Never has it been more important for everyone involved in the communications services and networking sector to be able to keep up to date with trends and developments. And never has it been more important that they are able to do this by sharing their views and knowledge with each other as well as accessing the latest news and analysis," stated Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. "This is an incredibly exciting time for the industry and for Light Reading – standing still is not an option."
The adoption of the new community model by Light Reading, which leads its sector in terms of traffic, content, and reputation, has been enabled by a migration to the content management system and proven operational strategies of DeusM, an integrated marketing services company owned by UBM. DeusM builds and operates highly engaged communities of qualified users within specialist B2B markets using a strategy of best-practices focused on content and technology. Light Reading is the second in a series of groundbreaking community-based launches for UBM Tech throughout 2013. The EE Times community platform launched last month.
"As the world's leading authority on next-generation communications technologies, Light Reading strongly believes that it should use the same high-tech communications to increase engagement with audiences on our website, and before, during, and after our live and in-person events," says Stephen Saunders, the Founder of Light Reading, who recently rejoined the team as Brand Director, after a six-year hiatus. "Our new site delivers unprecedented levels of engagement – both for service providers and for the advertisers looking to reach them. With Light Reading, the medium really is the message!"
The Light Reading editorial team is led by Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. Additional editorial team members include:
- Alan Breznick, Cable/Video Practice Leader
- Dan Jones, Mobile Editor
- Dan O'Shea, Managing Editor
- Paul Rainford, Assistant Editor
- Sarah Reedy, Senior Editor
- Carol Wilson, Editor-at-Large
Adding their experience and insights are the analysts at Heavy Reading (www.heavyreading.com), who are tracking the latest hot industry trends through blogs and message board interaction.
In addition to the full-time team focused on creating and curating expert content, there are more than 50 contributors from leading communications service provider and industry organizations signed up to contribute to the site at launch, with more signing up daily.
