CMP Media today announced that the 14th annual Embedded Systems Conference Boston (www.esconline.com/boston), will run September 12-15 at the Hynes Convention Center. The event is recognized as the East Coast's most important and comprehensive forum for the "Creators of Technology" -- design engineers and engineering management -- those who take the first steps in creating cutting-edge breakthroughs driving our global economy and influencing everything from cell phones, console gameplay, medical devices, RFID technologies and space travel, to mention just a few. Many technologies are first introduced at the Embedded Systems Conference several years before they hit the market.

Embedded Systems Conference Boston will offer more than 90 classes and tutorials, providing design engineers, and engineering managers crucial updates on the industry's hottest topics like TCP/IP networking, CPLD and FPGA, Linux/Open Source, UML, ARM architecture, and high availability design. Conference-goers can expect to learn the latest techniques on how to make their embedded systems designs stronger, faster and more secure by attending a wide selection of sessions, ranging from "Principles of Safety-Critical Systems Design" to the full-day "Embedded GNU Jumpstart" program. Highlights of the conference will include the 2005 Embedded Security Seminar (September 12-14), two full days of exhibitor workshops presented by Intel, Sun Microsystems, and other leading companies (September 13-14), and a keynote address by Avi Rubin, professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins University who will speak about the global business impact of security and RFID technologies (September 13).

"Now in its 14th year, the Embedded Systems Conference Boston continues to be the gathering place of the world's 'Creators of Technology' -- those designers, managers, and innovators whose work drives global economic markets and transforms world culture," said Paul Miller, vice president and group publisher of the CMP Media Electronics Group. "Just as rock stars and athletes are globally celebrated, ESC recognizes the heroes in our community who are changing the way we work, live and play through astounding technological advancements."

In addition to training sessions, more than 150 leading hardware and software providers will be showcasing innovative, breakthrough technology and products, September 13-14. Among the exhibitors are Echelon, Atmel, Green Hills Software, Mentor Graphics/Accelerated Technology, Wind River and Xilinx. Exhibitors will also host two days of workshops, addressing specific solutions to unique design challenges. Workshops are free to all registered conference attendees and feature programs like "Migration from RTOS to Linux Enables Multi-Core Optimizations" hosted by Intel, "Real-Time and Embedded Java Solutions Seminar" by Sun Microsystems, and "Delivering Added Value With Embedded Speech & Voice Recognition" by IBM. For a complete list of free exhibitor workshops, visit: http://www.esconline.com/boston/workshops .

"Embedded Systems Conference Boston provides an ideal environment for reaching our target developer -- the behind-the-scenes innovators creating great products looking for that extra edge in cost savings, increased functionality, and networked technologies," said Anders Axelsson, Echelon's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "We're able to effectively reach new customers through exhibiting at the show and our free workshop for attendees will give us the opportunity to demonstrate to developers and technology leaders just how fast, cost-effective, and easy it is to embed our control networking technology into their products."

Embedded Security Seminar focuses on latest trends, tools and design methodologies (September 12-14)

The three-day technical program will feature several one-to-three hour sessions on topics like practical secure hardware design, wireless security, and Internet security. Executives from Nokia, Atmel, Texas Instruments, LynuxWorks, Seagate, Fortify Software and more will address subjects like "Security for Mobile Devices", "Network Security for Embedded Systems", and "Wireless Sensor Networks". Security is a growing concern for the embedded industry, as engineers are being tasked with the critical challenge of securing devices that share data with other devices. CMP Media research has shown that two-thirds of attendee's upcoming embedded design projects are expected to have security considerations. The seminar is sponsored by Innominate Security Technologies AG and SafeNet.

Attendees can register for the Embedded Security Seminar individually, or together with the Embedded Systems Conference Boston.

"ESC Boston gives us an excellent opportunity to confirm Atmel as a leader in the design and manufacture of advanced semiconductors, with particular focus on our flash memory based microcontrollers," said Clive Over, communications director of Atmel® Corporation. "The conference provides us the ideal environment for reaching out to new partners and clients, and educating the nation's technology leaders on the ease, cost effectiveness and flexibility of our silicon chips (ICs) and support tools."

Event Keynote Addresses RFID Technologies

On Tuesday, September 13, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Avi Rubin will deliver the keynote address "Security and Privacy Issues in RFID Technologies", describing the two types of RFID systems in use today and the security and privacy concerns introduced by these and future applications. Rubin is the professor of computer science and technical director of the Information Security Institute at Johns Hopkins University and the founder of Independent Security Evaluators.
