Thousands of engineers gathered at the Hynes Convention Center for opening day of CMP Technology's 15th annual Embedded Systems Conference Boston ( www.esconline.com/boston ), running September 25-28. The event has gained significant momentum in recent years, in attendance, exhibitors and excellence in technical training, making it the fall's must-attend forum for electronics engineers, offering "Knowledge in Real Time" -- networking, training, innovations, and racing ... all in real time.

"Without a doubt, ESC Boston is the largest fall event for embedded engineers -- with top level exhibitors, the highest-caliber technical training and the best in networking opportunities and special events," said Jim Turley, Embedded Systems Conference Program Chair. "The popularity of our programs and innovative events are reflected in the show's growing attendance and we're looking forward to making it a bigger and better event each year."

ESC Boston is the largest forum this season for the country's embedded engineers to gather, learn, compare products, check out new technologies and network. The conference showcases the breakthrough technologies of the industry's top companies, including AMD, Intel, NEC, Texas Instruments, Green Hills Software, NXP Semiconductor, IBM, Mentor Graphics and Sun Microsystems, who round out 140 exhibitors filling the exhibit floor. The floor will be open Tuesday, September 26 (12:00 pm - 8:00 pm) and Wednesday, September 27 (10:00 am - 4:00 pm). For a complete list of ESC Boston exhibitors, visit: www.embedded.com/esc/boston/exhibitflr/ .

The show features a comprehensive technical program of 92 classes and tutorials covering topics like Linux & Open Source, Safety & Security, Eclipse, DSP, Hardware, UML/SysML, and Java. Attendees can also attend sponsored sessions to learn about specific solutions to unique design challenges, presented by AMD, Safenet, and FTDI Chip. Keynote Presentation and Industry Address by Intel, Tuesday, September 26 Marc Abrahams, editor and co-founder of the science humor magazine Annals of Improbable Research (AIR) will deliver the keynote presentation: "Improbable Research and the Ig Nobel Prizes" at 11:00 am. He will describe improbable research that first makes people laugh, and then makes them think.

Joe Jensen, general manager of marketing and platform programs for Intel's Communication and Infrastructure Group will deliver the Industry Address at 1:00 pm, taking the audience on an exploration of tomorrow's embedded landscape, describing the revolution in digital technology trends.

CMP Technology introduced brand new programs for 2006 to enhance the attendee experience for attendees:

Disruption Zone Showcases Groundbreaking Innovation from Leading Start-Ups

Debuting at ESC Boston, the Disruption Zone will showcase companies taking the next big leap forward in the embedded market, like Quantum Leaps, CorEdge, Quickfilter, Virtutech, Ultracell and others presenting pioneering technologies such as a rechargeable fuel-cell battery, intelligent sensors, DSP filtering chips, and a software state machine that could replace your RTOS.

Live Teardowns of Products

Each day, conference-goers can experience a "Live Teardown" of popular electronics, get an inside look at what's inside the box and how it works, and then enter to win the item onsite. On Tuesday (3:30 pm - 4:30 pm), attendees can watch the teardown of a Sony DVDirect™ MC1 Multi Function DVD Recorder and on Wednesday (12:45 pm-1:45 pm), a Roomba vacuum. Live Teardowns will take place at The Commons, Booth 100, and are hosted by David Carey, president and chief wrench of Portelligent, Inc., a supplier of teardown reports and related industry research on wireless, mobile, and personal electronic products.

Get to the Point Panel -- The End for Embedded Linux?

This session brings the Linux technology debate right to the exhibits floor. Live, unrehearsed and in front of the crowd, the panel pits opposing industry executives against each other. The panel will be held on the exhibit floor, so all ESC attendees can attend. Panels will take place at The Commons, Booth 100 on Tuesday (6:15 pm - 7:00 pm).
