CMP Media (NASDAQ: UNEWY) today announced its Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Boston (www.embedded.com/esc) to be held in the Hynes Convention Center, September 15-18, 2003. Featuring a comprehensive training program, ESC Boston provides a prime opportunity for design engineers, technical managers and developers to learn leading-edge techniques that address programming and real-time design challenges. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view and test the latest in embedded hardware and software technology products from leading companies including Analog Devices, Fujitsu, Green Hills Software, Mentor Graphics, and XILINX.

"As microprocessors become less expensive and more powerful, they are enabling embedded systems to provide new functionality in a wide variety of real-world products," said Lindsey Vereen, conference director. "The goal of ESC Boston is to deliver the most up-to-date program content that can be applied to these real-life design challenges by offering developers insight into the latest trends, tools and design methodologies in the industry."

More than 4,000 participants are expected to attend this year's conference, which will feature a dynamic keynote speaker, more than 120 exhibiting companies, 78 classes and tutorials, and three "shop talk" sessions.

Event Keynote

On Tuesday, September 16, 10:15 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Jack Ganssle, writer for Embedded Systems Programming, will explore the "Lessons We Haven't Learned" and the potential risks from firmware problems. Ganssle will provide a "lore of firmware disasters," with stories of both well known and largely unfamiliar crashes, all of which resulted from poor software engineering. He will look at each crash, and extract must-learn lessons. Attendees will walk away in disbelief that designers could make such awful mistakes ... and will then, hopefully, rethink their product development strategies.

Timely Educational Sessions

ESC Boston's 70+ conference sessions will delve into hot design topics, including wireless, serial communications, Linux/Open Source, real-time development and software design. These sessions focus on delivering the technical insight necessary to make embedded system designs stronger, faster, and more reliable. Each class and tutorial provides practical answers to the toughest questions, and teaches skills and techniques that can be implemented immediately.
