CMP Media's EE Times today announced a significant increase in call for entries for its Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. This year's submissions are 70 percent higher, with 247 more nominations than the previous year. The awards, now in their second year, recognize the electronics industry's rock stars -- the creators of technology -- who every year develop products and systems that improve the way we work, play and live our daily lives. Finalists will be announced in early January and winners will be presented at the ACE Awards Gala on April 4, 2006, as part of the largest electronic systems design event in North America, the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley.

"We have seen an overwhelming response to our ACE Awards call for entries and are thrilled to see such a significant increase in submissions from leading technologists and executives looking to promote their ground-breaking work to the industry," said Paul Miller, senior vice president and group director, CMP Media's Electronics and Software Development Media Groups. "The extraordinary growth in submissions truly showcases the powerful position of EE Times in the electronics engineering community, and we are looking forward to seeing the results of this exciting competition."

ACE Awards Judges Selected

EE Times has announced a prestigious panel of judges, comprised of the leading voices of academia, industry visionaries, Wall Street's executives and more. Judges will evaluate nominees and award one Excellence Recognition Award in each of seven categories, including Company of the Year (Large), Company of the Year (Small/Medium), Design Team of the Year, Startup of the Year, Executive of the Year, Innovator of the Year, and Most Promising New Technology.

This year's judges are: George Scalise, President, Semiconductor Industry Association; Girish Mhatre, consultant, Target Group; Larry Boucher, President and CEO, Alacritech; Jim Feldhan, President, Semico; Erach Desai, Analyst, American Technology Research; Lucio Lanza, Managing Director, Lanzatech Ventures; William P. "The EE Times ACE Awards represent the best and brightest innovations in the electronics engineering community, and this year's submissions are a great reflection of the cutting edge breakthroughs that are changing the world we live in," said George Scalise, president, Semiconductor Industry Association. "As a judge, it will be very difficult to pick just one winner in each of the categories."

Star of "The Daily Show with John Stewart" to headline ACE Awards Gala

Performing at the 2006 EE Times ACE Awards Gala is Lewis Black, who has been entertaining audiences with his scathing political and social commentary on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" since 1996. The raving "man in black named Black" has also appeared in his own one-man, off-Broadway show "Black Humor", and in several films, including "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "Jacob's Ladder". He has authored over 40 plays that have been produced at theaters across the country, including "Czar of Rock and Roll" and "The Deal," the film version of which aired on the Sundance Channel.
