Laura Finnerty, Show Manager for CMP Media's (NASDAQ: UNEWY) second annual Communications Design Conference (CDC) today announced that approximately 3,590 engineers, developers, and managers attended the event, including exhibitors, speakers, and media.

Approximately 580 engineers, and technical managers, attended the technical track of the conference held in San Jose last week, making it one of the few conferences in 2002 to report an increase in attendance. The conference enabled design engineers and technical managers to discover innovative techniques for designing OEM communications systems that apply wired, optical and wireless communications technologies for personal, home/soho, enterprise and infrastructure applications.

"Strong attendance for a communications focused conference is extremely unique in 2002," said Loring Wirbel, conference co-chair. "We were pleased to see a 76 percent increase in the attendance of the technical track of this year's show. This great response from leading-edge design engineers to advanced education that will encourage industry innovations could pave the way towards a recovery in the communications market."

The exhibition featured announcements and innovations from 75 industry-leading companies, including Cadence, Motorola, IBM, National Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, and Cypress Semiconductor.

"Our participation as an exhibitor and a technical presenter at CDC provided us with the unique opportunity to reach key customers and keep our fingers on the pulse of the latest innovations in the communications market," said Scott Hughes, Trade Show Manager of Motorola. "In contrast with other technical shows, we were pleased with the quality of attendees. CDC is an outstanding forum for engineers an technical managers and we look forward to future participation."

Many of the CDC program presentations, including the keynote by T.J. Rodgers, President and CEO of Cypress Semiconductor, are available at http://www.commdesignconference.com/ , which will allow design engineers ongoing access to CDC information, online. Next year's CDC will be held September 29 through October 2, 2003 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California.
