CMP Media (NASDAQ: UNEWY) today announced the conference program for the Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco, providing a view of future developments in the key growth markets for the electronics industry. The Embedded Systems Conference's new larger venue in San Francisco features the industry's largest and most comprehensive educational program, with numerous classes covering hot topics such as design of wireless devices, development of distributed systems, and open-source design tools and operating systems.

The twelfth annual Embedded Systems Conference, running from April 9-13 at San Francisco's Moscone Center, provides a total of 171 classes, and 15-full day tutorials, including 95 entirely new sessions. The new sessions highlight some of the fastest growing areas of embedded design, including a focus on Internet Appliance Design, developing with programmable logic, system-on-chip, and hardware design.

"What embedded engineers and designers are learning today has a direct impact on the direction of the market for embedded devices," said Lindsey Vereen, conference director and editorial director of EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING magazine. "This year's conference program provides a broad spectrum of classes on wireless connectivity, in response to the growing demand for wireless devices. The program also addresses increasing concern about embedded device security with five new classes on security issues," he said.

The conference opens on Monday, April 9 with a program of full day tutorials on a variety of topics including:

  -- Embedded and Real-Time CORBA
-- Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Java, but Were Afraid to Ask
  -- Embedded Linux Essentials
  -- Graphics for Embedded Systems

The educational program continues Tuesday through Friday with dozens of 90-minute classes. The breadth of topics covered in the four days of classes is illustrated in this summary of event titles:

-- Security Aspects of Wireless Devices
-- Integrating e-Appliances into Business Enterprise Systems
-- Component-Based Engineering of Distributed Embedded Systems
-- The Distributed Real-Time Specification for Java
-- Working with WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)
-- Solving the Challenges of Embedding Linux
  -- A High-Speed SoC (System-on-Chip) Software Architecture

In addition to the extensive coverage of the newest technologies, ESC continues to provide a solid program on the fundamentals for the beginning embedded designer. Introductory level classes include topics such as programming with C++, debugging and co-verification, how to write device drivers, and memory management.

The comprehensive conference program is just part of the excitement at ESC-San Francisco. The new Moscone Center location enables an expansion of the world's largest exhibition of products and services for embedded systems. Numerous special events, including guest speakers, panel discussions and opportunities for attendees to socialize and network with other embedded professionals will be announced during the next couple of months.
