TechInsights today announced that executives from Microsoft and Sun Microsystems will be presenting industry addresses at this year's Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley.

ESC Silicon Valley is the largest event for the design engineering community to learn, collaborate and celebrate innovation and annually brings together the top engineers and managers in the industry. This year's event will be held April 14 - 18 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif.

Microsoft, Opportunities in an Evolving Market: Smart, Connected, Service-Oriented Devices

Presenters: Kevin Dallas, General Manager, Windows Embedded and Mike Hall, Software Architect, Windows Embedded.

-- Dallas and Hall will address the recent growth in the embedded
industry as being driven by new embedded devices that have advanced
computing capabilities and are IP connected.
-- The discussion will also explore how these devices are creating new
business models and growth opportunities for OEMs, enterprises and
service providers by evolving to both accept services, as well as
expose the data they contain as a service.

Sun Microsystems, Chip Multi-threading: The Processor Architecture for the Future of Embedded Systems

Presenter: Mike Knudsen, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development -- Microelectronics Group.

-- Knudsen will address the recent threats in the embedded systems of
diminishing processor performance from higher frequencies, increased
processor heat output, and memory latency bottlenecks.
-- The discussion proposes how CMT processors will positively affect
the future of the industry by delivering two to three times the
throughput of dedicated network processors, run cooler than general
purpose processors, and virtually eliminate memory latency.

  Commentary:
  Rich Nass, for TechInsights

"The Industry Addresses will be one of the highlights of ESC Silicon Valley, as we have two of the most influential giants in the embedded industry, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, speaking on current issues in the industry. The presenters will address the issues of negotiating an evolving

market; as well as how to forecast future innovation, by investing in today's technologies."

Kevin Dallas of Microsoft:

"We are honored to be presenting at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose this year," said Kevin Dallas, General Manager of the Windows Embedded Business at Microsoft Corp. "The Embedded Systems Conference is the perfect place to reach the developer community, OEMs, partners and customers, and we hope to share with them our energy and excitement about the future generation of smart, connected, service-oriented devices."

Mike Knudsen of Sun Microsystems

"The combined impact of both growth in services and in connected endpoints (formally referred to as subscribers) is dramatically increasing the need for more highly-threaded systems at the edge and throughout the network, to keep up with all the traffic. Multicore and multi-threaded processors are designed to meet this challenge, and to enable the next era of scalability in the coming connected planet. Going forward, multicore, multithreaded processors will power the platforms of choice for the industry's leading systems designers."
