CMP Media LLC (NASDAQ: UNEWY) announces the opening of the 13th annual Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco (www.esconline.com), the world's largest gathering of technologists, industry leaders, and media focused on embedded systems design and development, held March 12-16. The 5-day event at Moscone Center is expected to attract more than 15,000 members of the embedded computing community to explore critical embedded design issues, including Internet appliance design, wireless architectures, DSPs, Java, and real-time design. The Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco provides a prime opportunity to meet with more than 330 suppliers of semiconductors, development tools, software, and services.

"As electronics become more prevalent in our everyday lives, engineers face daunting issues with communication among devices and the complexity of the systems they are designing," stated Lindsey Vereen, conference director. "We expanded the technical program to give designers an opportunity to understand these issues and examine the latest industry developments."

Thought leaders present two keynote addresses. Murray Gell-Mann, Nobel Laureate in Physics, discusses Simplicity to Complexity March 13 at 1:30 p.m. and Henry Samueli, CTO, Broadcom presents Rethinking the Design of Communications Systems March 14 at 10:00 a.m.

Timely Technical Program

The conference program offers 205 classes and tutorials to help designers gain essential knowledge and skills to make their embedded designs better, faster and more reliable. Each class and tutorial provides practical answers to the toughest embedded questions, and teaches techniques that can be implemented immediately. The program has been expanded this year with 100 new courses, addressing Open Source, Security, Bluetooth, Linux, Hardware/Software Co-Design, System-on-a-Chip Design and the Embedded Internet. Attendees can also catch up on the latest innovations and breakthroughs in the embedded industry.

Innovation Showcase

ESC San Francisco also features the Innovation Showcase -- a self-guided tour of the best in embedded end products, from military-use PDAs, to networked home appliances, entertainment consoles, and air monitors. The showcase features 18 leading-edge innovative products from 10 exhibitors. The showcase kicks off with a demonstration of an amazing new hybrid SUV, developed by students at UC Davis that doubles the fuel efficiency of a standard SUV while increasing performance. The vehicle features some of the most advanced embedded technology for vehicle operation, maintenance and in-car entertainment.

The Embedded Systems Conference is produced by CMP Media LLC and is sponsored by Embedded Systems Programming magazine and Electronic Engineering Times. Other conferences produced by CMP's Electronics Trade Show Group include the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago, Embedded Systems Conference Boston, Embedded Systems Conferences Asia and the Communications Design Conference.
