CMP Media announced today the promotion of Patrick Mannion to editor of EE Times (www.eetimes.com), where he will be responsible for day-to-day operations, focusing his editorial team on the technology, business issues and people that make up the electronic engineering community. Formerly EE Times Executive Editor and a veteran electronic engineer, Mannion helped transform the 33-year-old electronics newsweekly into a global news and information source for the creators of technology.

"Patrick's technical chops, his hustle and drive have really propelled EE Times to the forefront of technology coverage," said Fuller. "His insight and work ethic are just what the publication needs to keep our 150,000 readers and nearly half a million unique Web visitors on the bleeding edge of electronics news and information."

Mannion has led ground-breaking EE Times wireless communications coverage, and transformed its Design Currents section in 2004 into one of the industry's most-vibrant design-trends sections. In his role as an expert on wireless communications, he also has helped to craft technical sessions for CMP Media's Embedded Systems Conference programs in San Francisco and in Boston.

Prior to joining CMP Media, he worked as components and then communications editor at Electronic Design, and earlier in his career covered computer boards, optoelectronics, displays, components, testing and measurement for Electronic Products Magazine. Mannion holds electronic engineering degrees from the Sligo Institute of Technology and Dundalk Institute of Technology, both of Ireland.

"In a time of rapid change and adaptation, it's hard to imagine a more exciting and humbling position than editor of EE Times," said Mannion. "The editorial weight behind every word published -- either in print or online -- is enormous. The creators of technology around the world trust EE Times to provide the news, analysis and perspective about the dynamics of the electronics industry. As editor, it's a privilege to be in a position to help direct and focus that weight as EE Times continues on its mission to map out and be a guide for the future of electronic engineering."
