The content of the special issue covered how the earthquake and tsunami impacted Japan – its people, business and industry. It focused on the loss of electric power and its devastating consequences.  UBM Electronics brought all of its brands -- EE Times, ESD, EBN, EDN, Design News, Test & Measurement World and Embedded.com -- together to produce the special issue. "The Day the Lights Went Out in Japan" raised over $133,000 for American Red Cross relief efforts to assist Japanese people and businesses.

Junko Yoshida, editor in chief of EE Times, said, "Our editorial team strove to explain the disaster's consequences and the lessons that can be drawn from the emergency response of the government, utilities and technology companies.  I've never had such a groundswell of help and support from industry sources as well as our editorial and production team – it was a genuine team effort."

"We are very proud of our special digital issue and we're very pleased to be recognized by FOLIO: for creating outstanding editorial," said David Blaza, Vice President, UBM Electronics.  "The digital issue was a simple, but powerful, idea to raise money for those affected by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear problems in Japan.  We were very pleased to have pulled together as an industry to assist the Japanese people in their time of need."
