UBM Tech Makes a Technology Donation to Nassau Community College to Assist Student Veterans in Reaching Educational Goals

MANHASSET, N.Y., May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Tech, the global media business that brings together the world's technology communities, today announced the donation of 414 Netbooks through the UBM LLC Foundation to Nassau Community College, a unit of the State University of New York, and its Center for Veterans Affairs, in order to assist student veterans in reaching their educational goals. The donation was made possible through UBM's collaboration with the Long Island Volunteer Center and their relationship with the College's Center for Veterans Affairs.

Dr. Evangeline Manjares, Dean of Academic and Student Services for the Centers for Service Learning and Veterans Affairs, will distribute the Netbooks to veterans who are currently enrolled at Nassau Community College or students who will begin taking courses during the upcoming Summer and Fall 2014 semesters.

"These netbooks are to help military veterans with their educational process through online access to research, enable them to do their academic work independently anywhere and anytime. They can also use these netbooks for information on job training and state and federal sources that can help them while in school. In addition, these netbooks will help train student veterans of different categories," said Dr. Evangeline Manjares. "There are many student veterans that need computer knowledge in order to work in their different disciplines.  This donation truly supports sustainable development and quality education in practice."

Christine Torinese, UBM Tech Program Delivery and Operations Director, led the efforts with local community members to make the donation possible.
