The 2015 Distinction Award Medalists were recognized for leading strategic initiatives that address critical opportunities and challenges in the public sector, and add value to the business.  Selected projects span citizenship and immigration, education, and public safety, and offer solutions that increase the productivity and impact of public service ICT management and service delivery.

Following a rigorous criteria-driven evaluation of the 37 Honourees by leading public and private sector executives, the GTEC Judging Committee selected these 13 accomplished ICT change agents to receive a highly-prized Distinction Award Medal.  A federal, provincial and municipal medalist was selected across each of the following award categories:

  • Excellence in Public Service Delivery: External
  • Transforming the Business of Government: Internal
  • Excellence in IM/IT Operations
  • Excellence in Collaboration
  • Maximizing the Talent of our People

The 2015 Distinction Awards also recognized the following federal and provincial recipients of the Leadership Award for outstanding service to Canadians:

  • Jill Graves, PST, ACP, CSP, PMP, Project Leader, Agile Coach, Trainer, Compliance and Debt Management Directorate, PMO, Canada Revenue Agency
  • Dr. Michael Fung-Kee-Fung, Head of Surgical Oncology and Chief of Cancer Transformation and Strategy, The Ottawa Hospital

"GTEC is proud to showcase and celebrate leaders who are leveraging technology to transform service delivery to Canadians," said Michele Lajeunesse, Executive Director of GTEC.  "The Conference Board of Canada notes that our nation remains near the bottom of its peer group on innovation, ranking 13th among the 16 peer countries. The individuals and teams honoured this evening are true innovators who demonstrate the leadership, vision and action required to increase Canada's innovation capacity and performance, and move our nation up the list."

In addition to the 13 medalists and leadership award winners, GTEC also recognized an additional 24 Honourees from government departments across the country. The 2015 Honourees join more than 556 public sector teams and individual leaders who, since 1992, have received this distinction for excellence in public service ICT management and delivery.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson delivered the opening address at the awards ceremony, recognizing the ingenuity, leadership and impact of Distinction Award Medalists from Ottawa's own backyard, throughout the province and across the country.

The GTEC Distinction Awards recognize and celebrate ICT leadership, excellence and service delivery across municipal, provincial and federal governments.
