SD West 2007 celebrated its 20th anniversary last week with a 20 percent increase in attendance over last year. Top experts, visionaries and well-known technology gurus from all corners of the software development world gathered for this influential event, held March 19 - 23 in Santa Clara, CA. Attendees participated in five days of classes, tutorials, roundtables and keynote presentations showcasing the latest languages, tools and trends in the software developer industry.

"For the past 20 years, SD West has served as the gathering place for all the major players in the software development community. Our success has been built on the quality and breadth of our training coupled with the expertise of our speakers," commented Tamara Carter, SD West Conference Director. "We are thrilled to be celebrating our silver anniversary! This is a huge milestone for us and we thank our attendees, exhibitors and speakers for all their support throughout the years. Our team continues to be awed by the ceaseless stream of innovations fueled by software developers around the world, and we are grateful to be a part of such an exciting industry."

This year's overflow crowds took advantage of a comprehensive range of conference offerings focused on core technologies such as Java, XML and C++ as well as the latest in "next-generation" technologies like Ajax, Ruby, SOA, Web Services and Agile Modeling. Event highlights included the Developer Bowl competition, the Dr. Dobb's Journal Excellence in Programming Award presentation conducted in the virtual world of Second Life, and the 17th annual Jolt Awards ceremony hosted by CMP's Software Technology Group vice president Kerry Gates and Craig Newmark of Craigslist.org.

Attendees got a first look at the latest products from the leading technology vendors in the industry on the sold-out Expo floor. Google, Microsoft, IBM, Aladdin Knowledge Systems, Blackberry, Amazon Web Services, Adobe, Intel and Paypal were among those participating. The CMP Technology booth gave a consistently packed crowd a sneak peak at the new Dr. Dobb's Island in Second Life along with an overview of the upcoming Life 2.0 Summit and the soon-to-debut life20.net developer community.

The much-anticipated return of the Developer Bowl hosted by Jonathan Erickson, Editor-in-Chief of Dr. Dobb's Journal, brought together teams from Yahoo!, IBM, CodeGear and Google in a battle of software development knowledge. The competition was fierce, but in the end Google walked away the winner.
