CMP Media's TechWeb Network (http://www.techweb.com/) today unveiled Focal Points, a comprehensive new topic and content-driven advertising program designed to enable technology vendors to distribute links to their content-rich information around the TechWeb Network sites.

The cornerstone of Focal Points is a list of 25 granular technology categories drawn from the TechWeb Network's editorial taxonomy. For example, "Intrusion Detection" and "Encryption" are two granular technology categories related to the Network's "Security" topic.

Focal Points include a customized Focal Point News Page with six CMP news stories focused on the granular topic alongside an introductory paragraph about the vendor and five links to the vendor's content. Two of the vendor's links are also selectively distributed around the TechWeb Network and placed adjacent to relevant content.

The vendor-supplied links drive users to content such as product information and data sheets, software and API libraries, developer programs, catalogs, FAQs and newsgroups.

Sponsors may opt to add a registration service to their links to gather leads from interested buyers. Users only need to register once to be able to access all of the vendor's promoted content.

Each Focal Point comes packaged with 100,000 monthly banner impressions and 100,000 email newsletter ads that contain links directly to the vendor content. Banners run network-wide, while newsletter ads appear in the most appropriate newsletter during the month. Focal Point sponsors can choose to purchase additional banner impressions, newsletter ads, emails sent to opt-in lists and a micro site to enhance the program.

"Our research shows that our users value vendor content highly and expect to see it on the TechWeb Network," says Amy Sklar, managing director of the TechWeb Network. "Focal Points provide advertisers with a unique opportunity to position relevant information in a contextual and meaningful way for the user."
