O'Reilly Media, Inc. and TechWeb, co-producers of Web 2.0 Expo, Web 2.0 Summit and Gov 2.0 Summit, today announced the People's Choice winners of the Launch Pad program at Web 2.0 Expo New York. Earth Aid and SetJam, two of the five on-stage presenters, were nominated by the attending audience as the winners of the competition. Web 2.0 Expo New York is taking place this week through November 19th at the Javits Convention Center. For more information visit: http://www.web2expo.com/ny.

Web 2.0 Expo is the leading global gathering of developers, designers, marketers, and business professionals building the next generation Web. Launch Pad, as part of the event program, is a unique public forum for unveiling distinctive new companies, products or applications in development, about to launch, or recently launched. This year's event, themed "the Power of Less," hosts the Launch Pad program to challenge Web 2.0 companies to showcase innovative and promising new products and services that withstand the test of venture capital and consumer scrutiny in challenging economic times.

"Congratulations to all of the finalists of our inaugural Launch Pad program at Web 2.0 Expo New York," said Brady Forrest, Web 2.0 Expo Co-Chair. "We recognize the rich start up culture of the East Coast and are excited about the success of this year's Launch Pad. We look forward to hearing more from both Earth Aid and SetJam in the future."

The five companies selected to present today include: Apstrata, Earth Aid, Foodspotting, Neighborhoodr and SetJam. Web 2.0 Expo New York's audience and a panel of industry experts which included Karen Klein of Soft Bank, Baratunde Thurston of Jack & Jill Politics, The Onion, and Popular Science's Future Of and Nate Westheimer of AnyClip, NY Tech Meetup and Flybridge Capital Markets, reviewed their demos and provided real-time, candid feedback. Audience members selected Earth Aid and SetJam as the People's Choice Winners. Earth Aid liberates utility datastreams - electric, gas and water - today and mashes them together in one place, making them more useful for households, for analysis, and for all of us. And SetJam has built an easy to use, specialized search engine that for the first time makes, what is collectively the largest library of full-length TV shows and movies in the world, as easy to watch as traditional TV.
